First State Government to Join Marathon Health
On May 1, 2019, the State of Kansas opened its HealthQuest Health Center. HealthQuest’s services are available to all employees and family members enrolled in the State’s health plan, with more than 8,500 employees living near the center. As one of a handful of states in the nation with a worksite health center, the state offers this new benefit to help improve the health of the eligible population and reduce its overall healthcare costs. A physician, two nurse practitioners, a health coach, a behavioral health counselor, and three medical assistants staff the HealthQuest Health Center. Services available include sick care, exams, health assessments, mental health counseling, and health coaching for help with making healthy lifestyle choices.
Lieutenant Governor Lynn Rogers attended the grand opening event and ribbon cutting.
“Our state employees are so important,” he said. “We want to make sure they are appreciated, and we hope this is one way they can see that.”
The proof is in the feedback we have received. Ninety-seven patients reported on their experience, and throughout the comments, three words stood out: friendly, professional, and helpful. The overall satisfaction rating for the center is 95.5 percent.
One answer summed up the responses we received to the question, “What went well?”
“The amount of time spent talking with the doctor, the questions she asked. She actually made eye contact when speaking to me. It is very rare anymore for that to happen!!
It’s zip, zip, do this, do that, here’s instructions, or a prescription and out the door you go. I was VERY impressed.”
In the first month of operation, patients participated in health coaching, mental health counseling, lab draws, physical exams, and sick visits. The HealthQuest Health Center is off to a great start, and we are excited to support them as they grow.
