Mando City of Fort Collins

My journey started two years ago. I was 50 years old, weighed 185 pounds, drank heavily, and did not take care of myself. I took four medications every day for blood pressure, heartburn, and asthma, which cost me about $500 a year (plus all the money I spent on alcohol).

Karen State of Kansas

Twenty years ago, I tore ligaments in my knee as the result of a workplace injury and needed three surgeries to be able to walk again. For years, extreme pain prevented me from walking prolonged distances. I gained weight, and had high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

Mark Parker Hannifin

Marathon Health clinicians discovered a heart murmur during my annual exam at The Wellness Center. The fact that I was overweight was obvious, but I was also falling asleep at work and often complained about being tired. They referred me to a heart specialist and a pulmonologist. Scans and chest X-rays were performed and I was referred to a sleep study.

Kathleen Hampton City Schools

When the Hampton City Schools Employee Health & Wellness Center opened in 2014, I visited to get some baseline information on the status of my health. As the years progressed, I began to notice at each appointment that my weight and stress levels were going up.

James Cretex Companies, Inc.

Recurring stomach pains, unexplained weight loss, and digestive issues kept me in constant pain. When over-the-counter treatment didn’t work, I made an appointment with Linnea Ritter, NP, at the Be Well Health Center. I had not been to the doctor in more than 20 years, but I was in too much pain not to go.

Karen Hearthside Food Solutions

It all started when I began putting on weight and couldn’t figure out how to lose it. When I received a diabetes diagnosis, it came as no surprise. I had previously been diagnosed with gestational diabetes and have a family history of heart disease and diabetes. Regardless, I quickly felt consumed by the condition.

During the summer of 2018, I started having pain in my shoulder. I decided to visit my chiropractor, and I went every week until I had exhausted the 10 visits per year allowed under my insurance. The chiropractor gave me minor relief but due to restrictions with coverage, I stopped seeking treatment.

Jeremiah CEBT

I was in my doctorate program when I realized that my health was headed for a steep decline. I had high blood pressure, was depressed and overweight, and my cholesterol was through the roof. I pushed through life while on the edge of poor health.

Kathy Escambia County School District

I have struggled with my weight for years. Especially after the birth of my second child, the weight was easy to put on and difficult to take off. In connection to my weight, I experienced high blood pressure and high cholesterol, issues that also affect members of my immediate family.

Megan Tufts University

After suffering with rapidly fluctuating weight, severe acne breakouts, and other hormonal issues, I was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome. Growing up, I often found myself surrounded by body image norms that made me feel out of place and undervalued, which negatively impacted my self-esteem.
