As a result of 44 years of smoking, I was diagnosed with COPD and pulmonary heart disease in 2016. I immediately quit, but over the following two years, I traded one habit for another and gained 28 pounds. When I learned about the Aflac Care Center, I was thrilled that when I was ready to lose the weight, I would have a place to go to find answers to my health questions.

I began seeing Sabrina Hilbert, NP, and we discussed changing my eating habits by experimenting with portion control and light exercise. I lost two pounds the first two weeks and found I was ready to take control of my health. Sabrina was behind me all the way and traded ideas, food information, and recipes. She cheered me on and was always a reliable source for new and different ways to stay healthy.

By visiting the Care Center regularly, I lost 52 pounds and 5 inches off my waist. I eat better, do Zumba three times a week, and have walked in five charity 5Ks. I feel better than I have in years! I have more energy, sleep better, breathe easier, and take fewer medications. My family, coworkers, and friends say I inspire them and that brings me joy!

If you’ve chosen to make health a priority in your life but don’t know where to start, visit the Care Center for a simple health assessment. Sabrina and Tameka James inspire me to be all I can be. They’ll do that for you too.
