Most of my adult life I’ve been overweight. I was already at my heaviest weight, so when I got pregnant and added on another 60 pounds, I knew I needed to get my weight under control.

After I had my son in November 2017, I couldn’t walk up the steps without losing my breath. It even hurt to bend over and stretch. I knew I needed to make a change and that it needed to start with my everyday choices. I made an appointment with Jennifer Schutte, FNP, at the Marathon Health & Wellness Center South. Jennifer was immediately encouraging; she helped me stay accountable by having me come in weekly to track my progress and weigh in.

Since I’ve started seeing her, I’ve changed my entire lifestyle. I make better nutritional choices and exercise for at least 30 minutes a day, 6 days a week. I’ve dropped 105 pounds since November 2017 and my health is the best it’s ever been. For me, it’s not about being skinny, the scale reflecting a certain number, or wearing a small size. It’s about being healthy, fit, and setting a positive example for my son.

At home, I can keep up with my one-year-old! I’m not only healthier physically, but mentally. Exercise and nutrition play a significant role in my mental health and because of the changes that Jennifer helped me make, I’m the happiest I’ve ever been.
