I knew I was overweight and something had to be done. Obesity turned into pre-diabetes, joint pain, feeling sluggish, and overall just not feeling my best. I went to the Boar’s Head Family Health & Wellness Center and completed a Biometric Screening and a Comprehensive Health Review. My health status revealed that prescription medications were in my future, unless I made a change.
At the health center, I was encouraged to enroll in health coaching and be consistent with my visits. With my health coach, Marlo Williams, FNP, we set goals and discussed how I could reach them. We discussed proper sleep, exercise, and portion control. I now drink more water, I’m mindful of my portion sizes, and I exercise daily. I am consciously thinking about how my actions may affect my health. The most important thing I have learned is that things go hand in hand. There is not just one element to being healthy.
I am proud to say I am making progress. My fasting glucose was 125 and has since dropped to 86. My A1c has gone from 6.1 to 5.5. I’ve even lost 31 pounds! I used to hate to get on the scale, but now there is no fear. I know my health is on the right track.
There is no better time than now. Don’t wait for Sunday or the first of the year. Just get moving. Stay connected to positive people who want great health like you and you will succeed.
