When I finally realized I needed to make healthier lifestyle changes, I was 310 pounds. I couldn’t figure out how or why I possibly let myself get to this point.

I hid from the scale and could hardly look at pictures of myself. I have a three-year-old daughter and because I was tired all the time, I constantly had a short temper with her. I wasn’t the mother I wanted to be. I realized the way I had been living wasn’t fair to me or my family at all.

I decided to sign up for the Winning at Losing Weight-Loss Challenge with the Kwik Trip Center for Health to help me lose weight, learn about healthy eating, and to stay accountable for my health. I saw Angela Hammond, RN, Health Coach for a biometric screening to help me understand where my numbers were compared to where they should be.

I’ve now replaced all beverages I would previously drink with water and I have cut all sugar from my diet, with the exception of fruit. Angie has helped me to keep self-control by staying structured with what I eat. Having support from my family, co-workers, and Angie has kept me able to stay accountable, week by week.

I still have a ways to go, but I am down almost 75 pounds from last year. I am watching what I eat, portioning my food, and am now more active! I go to my gym 3-5 times a week, am taking vitamins and drinking about a gallon of water per day. I will continue on my journey and know that I can reach my goals with the support of the health center.
