After reviewing my annual lab results, it became clear that my health would continue to decline if I didn’t make changes. I struggled with alcohol consumption and my weight, as well as cholesterol, blood sugar, and blood pressure levels. I went to the Employee Wellness Center to see Darci Mathison, NP. She became a key influence in my health journey.

My heavy alcohol consumption, lack of exercise, and poor nutrition affected my desire to be a good father, husband, and friend. Darci taught me that my nutritional choices affect my mental health and backed me as I worked to improve both.

With Darci’s support, I’ve been sober for 18 months and have lost 30 pounds. I exercise regularly, eat nutrient-rich foods, and continuously push myself to maintain the results I’ve worked hard to achieve.

Today, my health is better than ever. I have more energy, feel happier, and am more passionate about my work. Best of all, my family has noticed the positive changes! Looking back, I see I was living in a world that lacked accountability regarding my health and my control over it. It’s easy to forget that the people closest to us are most impacted by our attitude and health choices. Now, my relationship with my wife and children is the best it’s ever been.

If you encounter a roadblock in your health journey, know it can be temporary and can be a positive learning experience. This is your story. Just remember, you have the ability to positively impact your health and the health of those around you, too!
