Following routine bloodwork and a biometric screening, I realized I needed to make a change. My elevated cholesterol and weight paired with my family history made me concerned about future health problems. I decided to schedule an appointment at the Washington Shoppes Health Center.

During my first appointment, Suzanne Caron, FNP, helped me create a diet and exercise plan. She also stressed the importance of preventive care, diet, and nutrition, and helped me develop strategies for portion control. All of these had been obstacles during past attempts to lose weight. As the year progressed and the plan proved successful, my goal expanded to include strength training for a hike to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Today, I would describe my health as excellent. Since starting health coaching, I’m medication free, have lost 38 pounds, increased my HDL to 78, and decreased my body mass index from 27.3 to 20.7 I have noticed the increase in my overall strength and fitness makes daily tasks easier to complete. I’ve become more confident in my physical abilities, which has led me to take on new challenges.

In March 2018, I decided to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. It was very scary but Suzanne would not let me waiver or lose sight of my goal! On February 8, 2019, I saw the world from the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro on a gorgeous, clear day. Since my return, I am already looking forward to my next challenge.
