Rodger Hyser

Rodger is a 46-year-old Accellent employee who first visited the company’s Brooklyn Park, MN, onsite clinic for a comprehensive health review in March of 2009. Through health coaching, he was able to quit smoking in December 2009 after years of smoking a pack a day. Rodger visited the clinic again in July of 2010 with questions about symptoms he was having, and was diagnosed with type II diabetes. Through the Disease Management program, he was able to bring his hemoglobin A1C from its initial value of 11.4 down to an impressive 5.7.

Tips for Weight Loss and a Healthier Lifestyle

• Set a goal or target weight loss that you wish to maintain. Be realistic. An average weight loss of 1-2 pounds per week is ideal.

• Decide on a calorie level that will allow a gradual weight loss. Suggested calorie ranges for weight loss are 1200-1500 calories daily for women and 1200-1800 calories daily for men.

• Don’t eat while engaged in other activities like reading and watching TV. Eat only at the table.

• Start exercising 10-20 minutes per day and progress to 30-45 minutes per day. Try walking up stairs instead of taking the elevator. Take a quick walk at lunch.
